Stumping in Washington state in recent days in hopes of winning the state’s primary tomorrow, Bradley has repeatedly emphasized his concern for environmental protection and criticized his Democratic rival Al Gore for reneging on promises to protect the environment. A front-page story in today’s Washington Post also questions Gore’s commitment to green issues, noting that he has failed to make them a focal point in his campaign, even though his 1992 book Earth in the Balance argued that saving the environment should be “the central organizing principle for civilization.”
