| I'm sure lots of you follow TalkingPointsMemo, one of the earliest and still best political blogs on the net. They've started doing a (rather charmingly low-budget) daily TV show, and today they debuted a clip wherein they interview John Kerry before he goes on the Colbert Report. They also got some interesting footage from backstage. Here it is: |

| Did the EPA really think the Mass. v. EPA decision was a "stunner"? Isn't that the kind of thing you prepare for? On that note, check out a new blog: Warming Law. It was started in the wake of Mass. v. EPA to analyze that decision and its effect on other important pending environmental cases. The writers are attorneys at the Community Rights Council. It's invaluable for legal laymen like myself, trying to keep up with the rapidly developing role of the jud ... |

| The Christian Science Monitor has always had excellent environmental coverage, but now they've gone above and beyond by creating an entire website devoted to global warming. It's great one-stop shopping for the latest news. Speaking of, check out 'Many new constraints for Bush on the environment,' a delightful rundown of all the setbacks and humiliations suffered by the Bushies in the past year, complicating their perpetual quest to dismantle U.S. environmental policy ... |

| Another blog that's recently become required reading for me: Mode Shift, a blog on urban sustainability from Keith Schneider, founder of the Michigan Land Use Institute. Yesterday brought a somewhat surprising post on big plans afoot to make Knoxville, Tenn. (among other places) a model of sustainable, healthy living. Y'all may or may not know that I was born in Knoxville, and went to college close to there, and I'm here to tell you that it's the last place I would ev ... |

Global warming floods London ... In Second Life |

| How did Grist miss this one last week, as reported by National Geographic News? Tokyo, Amsterdam, and the entire Mediterranean island of Ibiza were inundated with floodwaters today due to rising sea levels brought on by global warming. Oh: Or at least, that would have been the headline if events in the virtual world Second Life mirrored reality. A rolling flood temporarily swamped several areas of the online world as part of a campaign to illustrate the poten ... |

| Orion magazine has a brand new section, of interest to all Gristmill readers, where folks from all over are encouraged to write in and share what changes their families, communities, churches, etc. are undertaking to respond, now, to the climate crisis, peak oil, etc. I've seen so many ripe ideas posted on Gristmill, BioD's plug-in hybrid bike being a good example. A note about sources Where to find green news |

| Lately I've been feeling guilty about the fact that I frequently fail to cite where I find the links and articles I blog about. (Adding a "via so and so" or "hat tip: such and such" is good blog etiquette.) It's not deliberate, it's just that by the time I get around to blogging on an article that's been sitting in my browser as an open tab, I often can't remember what tipped me off to it. So let me just put in a generic plug for three aggregator ... |

| I'll admit it. Google's Gmail Paper April Fools Day gag got me late last night when I was all tired and groggy and indignant: 'Everyone loves Gmail. But not everyone loves email, or the digital era. What ever happened to stamps, filing cabinets, and the mailman? Well, you asked for it, and it's here. We're bringing it back.' Paper made from post-consumer organic soybean sputum? Genius. |

Shorpy An excellent new photo blog |
David Roberts |
31 Mar 2007 |
Gristmill |
| My new favorite blog in the whole wide world is Shorpy, "the 100-year-old photo blog." It's just what it says: it collects old pictures. That description doesn't do it justice, though. It's fascinating. For instance, check out this picture of Miss America contestants from 1927 -- interesting to see how standards of beauty have and haven't changed, hm? Or check out the rows and rows of folks hard at work in the computing division, from some time between 1909 ... |

| I confess I had never heard of VBS.tv before they wrote us. It's an internet TV station that grew out of Vice magazine. Poking around their site, I must say it looks pretty damn cool. Raw, but cool. I've been wondering when a viable internet TV production outfit will pop up. Maybe this is it. (Here's the mission statement, if you're interested.) The reason they wrote us is to flag an investigative series they did called Toxic: West Virginia. To wit: Part 1: Mountain ... |

Big Picture TV revamped Goes Web 2.0 |

| Big Picture TV, whose tagline is 'talking heads, talking sense,' has relaunched its website with a significantly improved design and a nicely implemented tag system (coming soon to a Grist page near you!). They've migrated to Flash-based videos that can be browsed by category, tag or both, as well as speaker. And as I originally wrote, their speaker list is quite impressive. I'm still not a fan of the talking head video approach (I need more visual stimuli), but ... |
