'Life's a Bleach and Then You Die.' So true. With 53% of the vote, this headline won last week's battle royale, beating out runner-up 'Oh No He Didn't.' This week I expect a struggle between Star Wars and James Bond fans. (Hmm, I wonder who would win a fight between Luke Skywalker and 007?) Here are the nominees: Youth the Force: Terrain Johnson and Colleen Contrisciane of Earth Force InterActivate Mapmaker, Mapmaker, Make Me a Map: How Wendy Brawer put green ...

It is no surprise (to me) that last week's winner is 'Enthuse Your Curbism' with 53% of the vote. What I do find surprising is that 'Waddle They Do Now?' faired better than 'Good Mennonite, and Good Luck'. Go figure. Also a little disappointing is the number of votes: 13 (an alltime low). I'd like to think you were spending all your time voting for us in the People's Choice Awards. If so, thank you, as Grist is currently kicking butt. Anyhoo, here are the next ba ...

Taking a cue from Alex over at WorldChanging, I'd like to point out all the print pubs covering enviro issues. First, of course, is the May issue of Vanity Fair. You'd have to be living under a rock not to know that our very own Chip Giller appears in the special green edition. In addition to naked photos of Scarlett Johansson, Keira Knightley and Keri Russell, readers will find a piece by Grist contributor Mark Hertsgaard titled 'While Washington Slept.' This artic ...

(photo credit: Mark Seliger, exclusively for Vanity Fair.) I have here in my hot little hands the latest issue of Vanity Fair, which, though alleged not to hit newsstands until April 11, mysteriously arrived at the Fremont PCC several days early. It's the "green" issue, with great feature pieces from Al Gore and Mark Hertsgaard, and a 20-or-so-page photo spread with environmental notables of various sorts -- including the "E-gitators," pictured ab ...

Sorry folks. As I had to leave early on Friday, I didn't get a chance to post last week's nominees. I thought one of my colleagues would pick up the ball, but they are obviously completely undependable. As usual, before we get to the current list of nominees, our first order of business is to announce the winner of battle royale número cuatro ... 'Flame! I Wanna Log Forever' with 33% of 117(!) votes. Thanks to all the newbies who participated! Now, here are this ...

| Thanks to everyone who participated in the first Daily Grist Headline Battle Royale. There were 34 votes and the winning headline was my personal fave, 'One King to Bring Them All and in the Darkness Bind Them,' which garnered 35% of the votes. So, I've decided to launch a new weekly tradition here in Gristmill: 'The Daily Grist Headline Battle Royale'! | Us Magazine Seattle births hip, witty, best-ever-in-the-universe green magazine Seattle has become an epicenter for environmentally themed web ventures -- an appropriately green characteristic of the so-called "Emerald City."
