| A while back, Al Gore wondered publicly why young people aren't out protesting in front of coal plants. Well, here you go: On Monday, a group of young people chained themselves together to prevent construction of a South Florida power plant -- 27 of them were arrested. [UPDATE: According to Matt in comments, it was a gas plant, not a coal plant. Should have read closer.] Those Palm Beach cops don't look very friendly (pictures from Rising Tide): That takes ... |

| According to AP, at least 48 coal plants are being contested in 29 states: From lawsuits and administrative appeals against the companies, to lobbying pressure on federal and state regulators, the coordinated offensive against coal is emerging as a pivotal front in the debate over global warming. Music to my ears. Naturally, the industry forecasts an apocalyptic future where ponies eat puppies and rainbows cry tears of blood: Industry representatives say th ... |

Lock box? Should Gore get arrested protesting coal? |
David Roberts |
31 Oct 2007 |

| It's a little sketchily sourced, but according to Mark Hertsgaard Al Gore is "considering" joining the Rainforest Action Network in some direct action protest against coal plants -- which could well result in his arrest. Hertsgaard thinks it would be a good thing: If Gore did end up getting arrested during a protest against a coal-fired power plant, it would make front-page news throughout the world and put a spotlight on what some climate scientists a ... |
