D.C. to host surprise Live Earth show Final point awarded in Gore v. Inhofe |
Sarah van Schagen |
06 Jul 2007 |
Gristmill |
| Remember how Gore wanted to have the U.S. Live Earth concert in Washington, D.C., on the National Mall? And then Inhofe was all "it's partisan, you can't do it, neiner, neiner." And then Gore was all "fine, we'll have it at Giants Stadium in New Jersey." And then Inhofe was all "fine!" And then they both slammed their doors. Yeah, good times. Well, now, Gore's all "Ha, ha, sucka, we worked around your whole 'partisan' bullshit, ... |

| Adorable actress and Grist-darling Natalie Portman visited a Rwandan wildlife park Saturday to name one of 23 baby mountain gorillas. Naming her gorilla "Ahazaza," meaning "future," Portman and others hoped to draw attention to conservation efforts for the highly endangered primates. I've yet to find any images from the event, but I'm sure Cute Overload is all over it. |

Tonight Show band leader Kevin Eubanks and American Idol-crooner-turned Grammy-winner Carrie Underwood (who won in 2005 as well, but dropped to runner-up last year). This year's runners up include our favorite babe teenage sleuth Kristen Bell (who knocked Underwood from the top spot last year), Spider-Man 3's Bryce Dallas Howard, the studly Joaqui ... |

| Maybe some of you are not going to believe this, but a trend seems to be developing wherein some progressives seem to think that the issue of global warming is grabbing the 'spotlight.' For instance, in 'Why is peak oil politically incorrect?' Ugo Bardi compares the number of online searches that global warming receives versus peak oil, using Google's admittedly new 'Trends' system. The number of searches for global warming is rising rapidly, while peak oil lists along. ... |

| Playing hard-nosed Executive Assistant District Attorney Jack McCoy, actor Sam Waterston has thrown the book at the bad guys for years on TV's Law & Order. Bad guys on boats and beaches better watch out now, too, because Waterston recently joined Oceana's Ocean Council, a panel of academic, business, and philanthropic leaders who represent and support Oceana's efforts on the global stage. Also on the Ocean Council are actors Pierce Brosnan and Kelsey Grammar. ... |

| As I mentioned the other day, there's a certain irony to the fact that Al Gore is out touring behind a book about the decline of reasoned public dialogue, since his emergence on the public scene inevitably elicits paroxysms of the shallowest, bitchiest, most vacuous commentary of which our punditariat is capable -- and that's saying something. Today brings examples so telling they hurt. I mean literally hurt. You've been warned. Start with this dazzlingly obtuse co ... |

Life-or-death ecological issues finally are starting to get the attention they so urgently deserve. And we can all ... |

So I feel obliged to take a break from the green and note with great sorrow that CW has cancelled Veronica Mars, Bell's sharp, sassy, criminally underappreciated star vehicle.
