Discover Brilliant Q&A: Bill Williams of Zenn Motors A chat with Zenn about NEVs and EEstor |
David Roberts |

Gristmill |
| I talked to a few people at Discover Brilliant. I'll be getting Q&As up over the coming weeks. Bill Williams is the California sales director for Zenn Motor Co., maker of neighborhood electric vehicles (NEVs). In addition to selling one of the most full-featured NEVs, Zenn has an exclusive contract with a tight-lipped and somewhat mysterious company called EEstor. EEstor claims it's making an ultracapacitor that will so far outperform previous capacitors tha ... |

Traffic report How much does congestion affect society? |
Clark Williams-Derry |

| The big story this week was congestion: the Texas Transportation Institute released its annual Urban Mobility Study to the typical fanfare. See, e.g., stories here, here, here, here, here, and here. The headlines, as always, are gloomy: congestion's on the rise just about everywhere, and is wasting our time, gas, and money. The word from the researchers isn't particularly hopeful either. Sure, there are things that can be done to slow the increase in con ... |

Adventures in the smart grid no. 3 Who will lead on advancing smart-grid technologies? |
Patrick Mazza |

Gristmill |
| To bring on the amounts of variable wind and solar energy and plug-in vehicles needed to meet our vast energy challenges, we will need a smart grid capable of managing much more complex power flows. Outside of some progressive exemplars, however, don't expect leadership to come from the utility sector. Instead, changes will be forced by new policies and players, including some you might not expect, like big box retailers. Those were my key takeaways from the stell ... |

Truth in advertising Norway bans generic green terms from auto advertising |

| This is funny and kind of awesome: No car can be 'green,' 'clean' or 'environmentally friendly,' according to some of the world's strictest advertising guidelines set to enter into force in Norway next month. 'Cars cannot do anything good for the environment except less damage than others,' Bente Oeverli, a senior official at the office of the state-run Consumer Ombudsman, told Reuters on Thursday. |

| As you know, California is all set to implement its tough tailpipe GHG emissions standards -- and something on the order of 14 other states are ready to follow suit. All Cali needs is a waiver from the U.S. EPA, allowing it to supersede national standards. Hybrid wars Honda fights to regain green car company mantle |
