Gas at $12-15? Not so fast But soon we will be mad for $6-7 gas |

| Normally, I would listen to Robert Hirsch and the legendary Charlie Maxwell, over CNBC's 'Mad' Jim Cramer. But Hirsch and Maxwell are making headlines for saying $12-15 gasoline is around the corner, based on Maxwell's projection of oil 'reaching $180 a barrel in 2015 and $300 a barrel in 2020.' Sorry, guys -- every extra $40 barrel is another dollar a gallon or so at the pump. Don't quite know how they did the math, but they did it wrong. When Mad Money's Jim Cramer ... |

Thumbs up for Pelosi, Dingell, Nissan Thumbs down for Toyota, GM, Ford, Washington Post |
Joseph Romm |

| The Washington Post had an article yesterday on the House fuel economy deal that is quite good in doling out cheers and jeers -- good except for two sentences. Let's start with the cheers. The article quotes NRDC rightly praising Pelosi for being steadfast with the Senate's 35 mpg target and Dingell, too, for: ... telling the automakers a year ago that they were going to have to accept a mileage improvement. He bargained hard for trying to make it less, but he d ... |

Discover Brilliant Q&A: Bill Williams of Zenn Motors A chat with Zenn about NEVs and EEstor |
David Roberts |
04 Oct 2007 |

| I talked to a few people at Discover Brilliant. I'll be getting Q&As up over the coming weeks. Bill Williams is the California sales director for Zenn Motor Co., maker of neighborhood electric vehicles (NEVs). In addition to selling one of the most full-featured NEVs, Zenn has an exclusive contract with a tight-lipped and somewhat mysterious company called EEstor. EEstor claims it's making an ultracapacitor that will so far outperform previous capacitors tha ... |

Is the Chevy Volt just more GM greenwashing? Sure looks that way |
Joseph Romm |
29 Jul 2007 |
Gristmill |
| Back in May, I was seduced by GM's seeming sincerity in developing a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, the Chevy Volt. We must always remember, however, that GM is a master greenwasher. An article in Edmunds, 'Chevrolet Volt Goes to Washington To Underline GM's Anti-CAFE-Increase Argument,' suggests GM is using the Volt the same way it used fuel cell cars to kill the electric car in California (as the movie explains): General Motors' North American operations chief, ... |

GM plays catch-up Beleaguered automaker finally starts touting fuel economy |
Lisa Hymas |
24 May 2005 |
Gristmill |
| GM -- stung by declining sales of SUVs and subsequently shamed by having its credit ratings lowered to junk status -- is trying a new marketing approach: touting its more fuel-efficient models (such as they are). A new full-page newspaper ad cries 'Meet the 30 and Up Crowd' and showcases '19 cars that have EPA highway estimates of at least 30 miles per gallon.' Too bad it doesn't have a single consumer hybrid model that it can tout on the page. (Its two hybrid trucks ... |

Detroit Sucks The Big Three are talking a good game, but reality does not match the rhetoric |
Roland Hwang |
26 Jan 2001 |
Soapbox |
| Judging by the media hype over Ford's and General Motors' early January announcements on "hybrid" vehicles at the North American International Auto Show, one would think that automakers have seen the light and are finally matching their professed concern for the environment with deeds. Hybrid cars deliver better fuel efficiency by using two power sources -- a gaso ... |
