| Alright, y'all know by now that I have a train-wreck-type fascination with bad TV. A Manhattan socialite sent to live and work on a rural hog farm for two weeks? I'm in. Tim Gunn telling a wannabe fashion designer to grab some bubble wrap and a banana peel and "make it work"? All over it. A South Central L.A. krumper learning how to jitterbug? Can't. Look. Away. And when, on occasion, those shows reveal even the slightest tinge of green ... well, it ma ... |

Tales of the bizarre My aborted adventure on Fox |

| I'll tell you a little secret. Late last week, for a few brief, surreal hours, I was scheduled to appear on the Fox News show Hannity & Colmes to discuss ... well, allegedly the greening of the Oscars, but as anyone who's seen the show knows, the real topic was always going to be the hypocrisy of Hollywood limousine liberals blah blah. If that's not bizarre enough, Ann Coulter was scheduled to appear opposite me. And if that's not bizarre enough, hours after I ... |

Watch TV for Grist! Tell us when green bursts from the screen |
Katharine Wroth |
14 Feb 2007 |
Gristmill |
| For the second time in two nights, I was innocently watching bad TV when a green theme popped up. A gal can't get a break from her day job these days with so many producers rushing to prove their eco-cred. So how far-reaching is this trend?Figuring that out will either require me to watch way too much TV or it will require your help. Loyal Grist readers, I ask ye: please think of Grist each time green creeps into one of your favorite shows, and report it here.I'll ... |

24 sucks Damn I hate that show |
David Roberts |
13 Feb 2007 |
Gristmill |
| For the first few seasons of 24, I kept trying to get into it -- I'd watch the first three or four episodes and give up. I dropped by for an episode or two this season, and it confirmed my initial impression, which is: 24 reflects a warped, adolescent view of violence and human nature. It reeks of macho fantasies, born of insecurity, entitlement, and above all fear. No problem arises on the show that cannot be solved with more force, more brutality. Anyone attempti ... |

| I don't know how they do it, but Big Picture TV has added author and Australian scientist Tim Flannery to their impressive list of talking heads. Tim Flannery wrote The Weather Makers: How Man Is Changing the Climate and What It Means For Life on Earth which was reviewed by Grist back in March. In this four-part series, Flannery chats about the carbon debt, action for solutions, the end of denial, and taxing carbon. |

Addicted to Oil, with Tom Friedman

| I poke fun at Thomas Friedman on occasion. His platitudinous, gee-whiz, American-tourist prose, presented with a heaping helping of deep-think pretension, is a target-rich environment. But that gee-whiz persona serves him well when he's right, and he's right about energy. His Discovery Channel program Addicted to Oil, which aired Sat. night, is absolutely stellar. Catch re-runs if you can -- or, if you lack scruples, the torrent is floating around. I'm sure green ... |
