DNC: Goodnight Bush Grist talks to the authors of a parody hailing the end of Bush's reign |
Kate Sheppard |

Gristmill |
| Many people are familiar with the children's book Goodnight Moon. They might not be familiar with Goodnight Bush, the unauthorized parody hailing the coming end of the Bush presidency. In it, authors Erich Origen and Gan Golan, both of California, ponder the many things the Bush administration's rule could have said 'goodnight' to. 'Good night earth? ... Good night old growth trees?' it asks. I found the pair selling their books here in Denver, and asked Origen wha ... |

Send in the Marines! President Bush exploring creation of massive marine sanctuaries in Pacific |
|
26 Aug 2008 |
News |
| Posted at 4:56 AM on 26 Aug 2008 On Monday, President Bush took the first step toward protecting three unique marine areas in the Pacific Ocean that are under U.S. jurisdiction, including waters around the Mariana Islands, Rose Atoll in American Samoa, and other coral reefs and atolls in the central Pacific. If all of the proposed areas are eventually protected, it would add 891,000 square miles of m ... |

Bush's puppets EPA administrator Stephen Johnson neglects his federal oath |

| This post is by ClimateProgress guest blogger Bill Becker, executive director of the Presidential Climate Action Project. ----- Some of us had high hopes for Stephen Johnson when President Bush appointed him in March 2005 as administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Johnson was not a former oil-industry lobbyist or Halliburton executive. He was a career civil servant who had been with the federal government for 24 years. He was a scientist, not a ... |

| The other day, President Bush, in response to a question as to why he has not pushed more for energy conservation, responded that the American people are smart enough to figure it out on their own. This prompted conservatives at the National Review to call for a 'Dubya-Love Moment' in honor of what they perceived as the straight-talking truth! It is truly amazing that a philosophical movement once filled with some of the smartest minds in economics now wears econo ... |

Hog heaven, part 1 Increased offshore drilling does not substitute for national energy policy |

| This post is by ClimateProgress guest blogger Bill Becker, Executive Director of the Presidential Climate Action Project. When it comes to energy policy, Amory Lovins has proven again and again that he's a pretty smart guy. At the moment, nothing seems more insightful than one of Amory's comments in the May/June issue of Mother Jones. Asked what energy policies the next president should champion, Lovins was skeptical. He believes energy policy will continue to be mad ... |

Tanks, but no tanks Bush to lift executive ban on offshore drilling signed by his father |
Kate Sheppard |
14 Jul 2008 |
Gristmill |
| President George Bush will announce this afternoon that he is lifting the executive ban on offshore drilling that has been in place since his father, George H.W. Bush, signed an executive order as president in 1990. The move is mostly symbolic, however. Unless Congress repeals its long-standing ban on offshore drilling, nothing will change. The executive order Bush intends to repeal bans oil companies from exploratory drilling in the Outer Continental Shelf. L ... |

Summit like it hot G8 leaders head to Hokkaido where Bush and his sherpa will provide climate guidance |
Kate Sheppard |
02 Jul 2008 |
Gristmill |
| On Monday, George W. Bush will travel to Hokkaido, Japan, for his eighth and final G8 summit, where climate change is likely to be the subject of heated (ahem) talks. At last year's meeting, leaders agreed to seriously consider a goal of cutting global greenhouse-gas emissions 50 percent by 2050. But the Bush administration continues to resist mandatory targets, and in a speech on Wednesday, Bush made sure to again emphasize 'technologies' over regulation. 'I'll ... |

Sun block Bush places moratorium on new solar projects on public land |

| In a parting shot at the competition for its fossil fuels supporters, the uber-lame (duck) Bush administration 'has placed a moratorium on new solar projects on public land until it studies their environmental impact, which is expected to take about two years.' Drilling for oil and gas, even in pristine areas -- hey, we’re former oil company executives. Leveling mountains in beautiful West Virginia -- we’re all for it. | The Mustache kicks ass today. He says it's 'hard for [him] to find the words to express what a massive, fraudulent, pathetic excuse for an energy policy' Bush is backing, but he manages fairly well. Extra kudos for highlighting the absurd refusal of Republicans to renew the PTC and ITC. One ommission: he doesn't mention that John McCain is out on the campaign trail pushing the drilling uber alles policy as we speak. |

| Posted at 6:36 AM on 18 Jun 2008 President Bush has joined John McCain in calling for an end to the offshore drilling moratorium that's been in effect for most U.S. waters since the early 1980s. | Bush blames Congress' failure to open the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge for high gasoline prices. The administration's own Energy Information Administration found otherwise in a 2004 Congressional-requested 'Analysis of Oil and Gas Production in ANWR' (PDF): It is expected that the price impact of ANWR coastal plain production might reduce world oil prices by as much as 30 to 50 cents per barrel [in 2025]. Amen to that, though his fantasy solution of George Bush being the one to 'get all the adults together in a room and work out a compromise' is a bit odd. Those waiting for that to happen might find this illuminating. I suggest that Tom atone by joining this very excellent organization. |

OPEC chief joins $200 oil chorus Bush, Big Oil offer more of the same |

| Yesterday, David noted comments by an oil analyst who predicted $200 oil by 2012. Today, that analyst was joined in his prediction by none other than the chief of OPEC, Chakib Khelil (who's also Algeria's energy minister). Mr. Khelil's comments were not date-specific, though this article leads me to believe he was thinking $200 oil could come much sooner than 2012.
