News |
| Posted at 3:27 PM on 24 Jan 2008 Dennis Kucinich, perhaps the most truly green of the presidential candidates -- and a vegan! -- has abandoned his bid for the White House. Take a last look at Grist's interview with Kucinich and fact sheet on his policies, and shed a tear for what might have been -- were the U.S. political landscape entirely different. source: The Plain Dealer see also, in Grist: Video of Kucinich at a Grist-spo ... |

News |
| Posted at 2:18 PM on 16 Jan 2008 The three leading Democratic presidential candidates came together in Nevada last night for yet another debate. Hillary Clinton, John Edwards, and Barack Obama all wooed Nevada voters by voicing opposition to the Yucca Mountain nuclear-waste repository, with Edwards taking his opposition a step further and coming out against all new nuclear construction. The highest drama came b ... |

Errata A few last bits of musing from Grist's presidential forum on climate |
David Roberts |
19 Nov 2007 |
Gristmill |
| A few final notes from Grist's presidential climate forum, before (?) you get sick of me talking about it. Most memorable bits: Dennis Kucinich mentioning, at the very top of his speech, that he's a vegan. I heard the sound of thousands (or at least a dozen extremely vocal) Grist readers swooning. Kucinich offering every American a guaranteed minimum income, and coal miners in particular a not-mining wage equal to what they were making in the mines. Who me ... |

More light, less heat Reflections on Grist's presidential forum on climate change |
David Roberts |
19 Nov 2007 |
Gristmill |
| On Saturday, presidential candidates Dennis Kucinich, John Edwards, and Hillary Clinton gathered in L.A. to discuss climate and energy at a forum co-sponsored by Grist and PRI's Living on Earth. The forum was moderated by Steve Curwood of LoE, with Mary Nichols of the California Air Resources Board and me providing questions. Despite a delay getting started -- Clinton was late arriving -- things went off without a hitch. Well, mostly without a hitch. When Clinton ca ... |

Global warring Are we a nation permanently at war? |
David Roberts |

| In his interview with Grist, Dennis Kucinich urged us all to recognize the connection between global warming and global warring. In that spirit, I thought I'd pass along an astute observation from Glenn Greenwald, who on matters of media and war/terrorism is without peer. About this quote from Rep. Lincoln Davis (D-Tenn.), a conservative member of the DLC: Bill Clinton ordered our troops and worked with NATO in Bosnia. That's the kind of pro-war Democrat that we ou ... |

| In the House Oversight Committee's hearing on political interference with the scientific evidence of climate change, Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) proclaimed in disbelief and frustration that, 'Today we have a planet that's smoking!' He, like many before him, likened the campaign to cast doubt on global warming with the tobacco industry's campaign in the 1990s to distort information on the health impacts of smoking cigarettes. In early 2007, the Union of Concerned Scientis ... |

| Last week, Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) introduced to the Congressional record a Resolution of Inquiry (H. Res. 515), cosigned by around 150 House Democrats, "demanding that the White House submit to Congress all documents in their possession relating to the anticipated effects of climate change on the coastal regions of the United States." (Press release; PDF of the resolution.) The idea, according to InsideEPA.com (as quoted by Roger Pielke Jr. -- I don't ha ... |

A U.S. Food and Drug Administration report has found that consumers want mandatory labeling of genetically engineered foods and feel "outrage" when they learn just how many supermarket products already contain genetically engineered elements. Consumers are concerned that such foods may have negative environmental and health effects in the long term ... |
