| If you just can't get enough livebloggin', Brian Beutler also had a running commentary on Gore's testimony over at his blog. Meanwhile, Inhofe and Co. are busy whining that they didn't get Gore's Senate testimony earlier. True statesmen. It looks like Lomborg's testimony has been delayed so long that Gore will be in front of the Senate before Lomborg starts. You can guess whom I'm going to choose to watch. |

Gore's legislative recommendations to the House All ten of 'em |

| If you don't want to read my whole blow-by-blow of Gore's testimony to the House, here's a summary of his ten legislative recommendations. An immediate "carbon freeze" that would cap U.S. CO2 emissions at current levels, followed by a program to generate 90% reductions by 2050. Start a long-term tax shift to reduce payroll taxes and increase taxes on CO2 emissions. Put aside a portion of carbon tax revenues to help low-income people make the ... |

| Well, here I am, against my better judgment, up at 6:30am, gulping down coffee, getting ready to watch Gore testify to the House. How did my life come to this point? Didn't I used to be cool? If you want to geek out along with me, you can follow along with the webcast here. Let the liveblogging dorkery begin! (Below the fold.) Man, Dingell is a cranky-looking dude. They're starting with Joe Barton?! And he's starting with a 'parliamentary inquiry'? You will not ma ... |

By the end of a whirlwind week, they had issued the Stockholm Statement, established what is now known as UNEP, and given birth to the modern field of international environmental law. Twenty years later, in June of 1992, just one month before he would be chosen as Clinton's running mate, Al Gore ... |

| Al Gore is testifying on Capitol Hill twice on Wednesday -- before John Dingell's House Energy and Commerce Committee and Barbara Boxer's Senate Environment Committee. According to the Drudge Report (link may only be temporary), 'Proposed questions for Gore, which are circulating behind-the-scenes, have been obtained by the DRUDGE REPORT -- questions that could lead Gore scrambling for answers!' Here are the questions, which would not cause a fifth grader to scramble, ... |

| In what may be the blockbuster hit of the political season, Al Gore is testifying to Congress tomorrow -- twice. Not only is his testimony expected to influence the direction of coming legislation, but it may also reveal something of his intentions on the presidential race. One way or another, there's sure to be drama. First, at 9:30am, he'll testify to [deep breath] a joint hearing of the Subcommittee on Energy and Air Quality of the Energy and Commerce Committee ... |

Ideas should trump personalities Don't shoot the messengers |
Jason D Scorse |

| All social movements are susceptible to the 'cult of personality.' This is always dangerous. Not only are individuals invariably fallible, and never live up to the 'purity standards' often imposed on them, but it is their message that is most important, not the messengers.Within the environmental community, I have witnessed this personality frenzy at work in a variety of settings, which usually leads to a debasing of the dialogue. I fear that the recent uproar over Al ... |

| On 7/7/07, Al Gore hopes to rock the House. Yes, that's House with a capital "h."Gore's first choice for hosting the U.S. Live Earth concerts was the 300-acre National Mall, but turns out it's double-booked already. The official National Mall Dayplanner says "annual Smithsonian Folklife Festival" and "rally by a religious group" (no details on which religious group, but it's not this one). Debunking the NYT's sloppy hit piece on Gore The gray lady gets it woefully, laughably wrong |
David Roberts |
13 Mar 2007 |

| Yesterday, Drudge breathlessly reported a coming "hit on Gore" from The New York Times. Today that hit has come, in the form of a state-of-the-art piece of slime from Bill Broad. This may be the worst, sloppiest, most dishonest piece of reporting I've ever seen in the NYT. It's got all the hallmarks of a vintage Gore hit piece: half-truths, outright falsehoods, unsubstantiated quotes, and a heaping dose of innuendo. As usual with these things, unless you' ... |

The scientific debate Some thoughts |
David Roberts |
05 Jan 2007 |

| Part of the confusion over Revkin's article is that there isn't one "climate debate." There are several. I'm going to taxonomize them in another post, but first I want to say something about the scientific one. This debate, as many folks have pointed out, is pretty much over. The denialists are wrong and they've been completely discredited. Every serious person involved in the climate change discussion accepts the broad conclusions of the IPCC. However, ... |
