Photo: AP/Paul Sancya Al Gore endorsed Barack Obama on Monday evening in Detroit, Mich., calling him 'a candidate who, in response to those doubting our ability to solve the climate crisis and create a bright future, inspired millions to say, 'Yes we can.'' 'For America to lead the world through the dangers and opportunity we're seeing before us, we've got to have new leadership,' said Gore. 'After eight years of incompetence, neglect and failure, we need ...

At long last, Al Gore is jumping back into the presidential election ring. With an endorsement, we mean. In a speech to be delivered at 8:30 p.m. EST in Detroit, Mich., the Goracle will endorse Barack Obama. From the announcement on Gore's blog: A few hours from now I will step on stage in Detroit, Michigan to announce my support for Senator Barack Obama. From now through Election Day, I intend to do whatever I can to make sure he is elected Presiden ...

'I think if I was Senator Obama I would say the biggest economic problem we face is the biggest national security problem and the biggest environmental problem. And if I were him, I would ask Al Gore to serve as his vice president, his energy czar, in his administration to reduce our consumption and reliance on foreign energy sources. That would send a signal to the world, to American people, to Congress, to everybody, that America's getting serious about this horrendo ...

In response to a question about whether he'd consider Gore for a cabinet position, Obama said: I would. Not only will I, but I will make a commitment that Al Gore will be at the table and play a central part in us figuring out how we solve this problem. He's somebody I talk to on a regular basis. I'm already consulting with him in terms of these issues, but climate change is real. It is something we have to deal with now, not 10 years from now, not 20 years fro ...

BREAKING: Al Gore still not running, though superdelegates may force him to, only probably not
|

In his column today, Joe Klein spins out a preposterously unlikely scenario whereby the Democratic superdelegates get together and conspire to pass over both Obama and Clinton and instead hand the nomination to ... Al Gore. Two or three paragraphs in I thinking, oh, Joe, pish-tosh. Then: Pish-tosh, you say, and you're probably right. OK then.

I wouldn't normally post about the latest round of Gore endorsement speculation, since nobody ever has anything new to say about it, but this comes from Steve Clemons, a D.C. insider who knows of what he speaks. He says a source close to the Clinton campaign told him that a rumor is running rampant that Gore is going to come off the fence and endorse Obama soon. Again, this is a third-hand account, worth only so much, but Clemons has credibility, so I thought I'd pass ...
