On Tuesday, the U.S. Chamber sent a letter to Sens. Boxer and Inhofe about the climate bill. It seemed to be singing a new tune on climate policy, leading Sen. Kerry to wonder whether the letter reflects a real change in the Chamber's position.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce can't catch a break these days. It has pretended to agree with the goals of climate legislation while recommending changes in the means so drastic that they would gut the bill. But there's a problem: many, many business see enormous opportunities in the shift to clean energy. And many of those businesses happen to be members of the CoC.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is famous for punishing officeholders and other political candidates who have the temerity to disagree with the Chamber's views. But what happens when the U.S. Chamber's own members and affiliates reject its "predictably stalwart" opposition to reasonable policies on climate change and green jobs?
One "solution" is to try to pooh-pooh the problem, as Chamber staff have been doing over the last several days.
