Yay, Majora!

I'm doubtful that a boycott a la 1980 would work but we need more brave and creative protesters like Majora to make a difference.

"dignity"

I am very sorry that so many Chinese are interpreting our criticisms of the Chinese government's behavior regarding human rights and freedom of speech as national insults.

One might have hoped that World War II had dealt a death blow to nationalistic aspirations of glory ...

But really, nobody has a problem with acknowledging how wonderful the Chinese people are, and how great their ancient civilization and traditions are (so long as it does not involve killing animals), and how much they have contributed to the world's arts, philosophy and religion. (Yes, religion. Non-Chinese spokespersons during the Olympics ought always to praise the Chinese by emphasizing their contribution to world religion.)

Here in NYC, at the corner of W. 42nd and the West Side Highway, for a few weeks now the Falun Gong meditators have been replaced by a Tibetan-flag-waving group over by the Circle Line Ferry. I noticed yesterday morning that a few of them were present, their flag present, and a couple of New York's Finest in attendance.

Chickens deserve our true friendship! So do fish! So do other sentient beings! Let us learn to be kind.

By the way,

what happened to Patrick Bookerly?

We never heard from him again, after I included in a message to him the Wikipedia article on the Tiananmen Massacre.

So could it be, I unsuspectingly got him turned off from his usual connexion to Grist?

How ironic: Did China ever have a more devout apologist?!

Chickens deserve our true friendship! So do fish! So do other sentient beings! Let us learn to be kind.

Donald Hawkins,

please summarize this message from James Hansen.

And please give fair warning about the kind of document to which you provide links. Some of us have "known compatibility issues" when we land on certain PDF files, and get frozen for a minute.

Devoutly Turned Off

As a left wing apologist to an apologist for a reactionary homophobic misogynistic right wing religion that never met a fascist regime it didn't like, the only connexion lost was non-existent to begin with.

A note was left "Dear LupisGargantua, Off to join the Amanda Cross GorillaGirlz in their assault on your last white male bastille, thanks for eating all the fish!! signed E. Doolittle, PS, Don't forget to wear your red mask to the ball."

Me, I was busy at the Ministry of Water Resources... meetings and such.

Curiously, in all the Western-Centric coverage of Tibet, no one ever considered the environmental aspects of the issue. One might have thought that those who claim to be environmentally aware might have considered the idea. But, sitting around the labset in the library, they ignored the ever present corpse of Livingstone, while they played the game of Clue.

In the land of the deaf, the screaming man is a horse.

Be Clever, Be Bourgeois, Be Free (apologies to JL).

 I wish you a clue.
