Renewable jobs

The number one threat to all of humanity is coal. Nothing is more important.

Fortunately, wind and solar are becoming less expensive with time while coal is becoming more expensive with time.

Coal is a dirty, toxic, risky investment, likely to become obsolete due to emerging renewable technologies and the dangers in carbon emissions.

Solar is much bigger than coal. I expect millions of jobs for wind and solar expansion in the near term.

A courage of Gov. Sebelius gave us more courage to do all that we can do. We need her ability to motivate others and dearly want her VP leadership at the helm.

I agree with this line...
"You bet coal's going to be part of our future."

After all, it is America's most abundant fuel source. And thanks to technology, it is cleaner than ever before. Tackling the CO2 issue is the next hurdle, but there's no reason to think investments in technology won't point us to the solution.

Any idea?

Any idea how much energy it will take and how much more coal would need to be burned per unit of energy output to separate the CO2 and pump it over pipelines and inject it underground Dave?

Probably not, since it's never been done, despite decades of research and 10s of billions spent on canceled projects, like the Futuregen experiment.

Why all the claims for "clean" coal, but no action? Is it because the claims are all that the coal industry wants, not the reality? The quadrupling of the price per watt and the 30% more coal to get the same output power?

And the task of somehow proving that CO2 pumped underground, stays underground.

Why doesn't the industry instead support research into converting coal to natural gas underground using natural bacteria, a much better way to get the energy from coal?

Or at least use phase change heat storage molten salt to convert coal power plants to an efficient backup power source for a renewable grid, instead of baseload power?

Why? Because the short term bottomline considerations rule. Just like they rule the uS auto industry, which is about to die because it won't change. Will your industry follow the same path?

After all the dirty tricks and underhanded tactics, bribery and coverup, of industries like this, can you blame us for hoping coal becomes obsolete? And new industries take over the energy and transportation sectors.

Be afraid. Kathy Sebelius as VP might just do for the nation what she is doing for Kansas on energy policy reform. You could be looking for a job, as a lobbyist you could easily switch to backing wind or solar of course. Having nary a principle to stand in the way of a complete reversal of your rhetoric.

Haha, Clean coal!
davidACCCE, you guys just have no shame, do you?

You come and comment on one of the most anti-coal blogs on the net? Why don't you check out http://www.coal-is-dirty.org, I'd love to see you try writing "it is cleaner than ever before" right after you watch videos of cancer, asthma, respiratory disease victims due to exposure to coal.

Everything about coal is dirty, from extraction to combustion, to disposal. Your propaganda won't fool anyone on this blog.

Talking about serious matters, can any politician remain in office without claiming to buy the 'CCS' jungle juice? The way Sebelius talks about it, it doesn't even sound like she believes it.

Replace:
"But yeah, I think if there is a process that can capture carbon and sequester it for long periods of time that becomes economically feasible, you bet coal's going to be part of our future."

With:

"But yeah, I think if there is a process that can make pigs fly for long periods of time that becomes economically feasible, you bet pigs are going to be part of our future."

she would be a decent VP, I guess....

Since Obama is taking money from the coal lobby, she might balance him out a bit. But I'm guessing not. What I expect is same old, same old...

I wouldn't waste my time voting for a Democrat this time around...or ever.

"better than Hillary"

If I were a betting dinosaur, I would not put much money on Hillary as Obama's VP pick.

Sebelius is definitely possible. But the recent public body language of Obama toward Evan Bayh, in which that cool fish (not to say frigid and airless) actually reached out and embraced his brother from Indiana, right up there on stage while the cameras were rolling, might indeed be a clue as to what kind of announcement we can expect, once Obama returns from his Rainbow Tour of mighty Europe.

Chickens deserve our true friendship! So do fish! So do other sentient beings! Let us learn to be kind.
