sugar is not the same as glucose

The journal article referenced here compares the effects of fructose and glucose. However regular table sugar is sucrose, which is a compound of half fructose and half glucose. So you can't avoid fructose by avoiding high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS), which is generally around half fructose and half glucose as well.

If you want to avoid fructose, you need to eat things that are made without sucrose either. Ironically, the sugar in regular old corn syrup (as opposed to HFCS) is all glucose, so if you can find stuff sweetened with that, you are avoiding fructose.

Diabetic that noticed the difference
Having recently seen the King Corn documentary, I've been reading a bit on the subject lately. For those who say that high fructose corn syrup is the same as sugar, I was surprised to see a diabetic who experimented on himself. It was in another web forum for diabetics.

This guy tried HCFS. Measured his blood sugar. Then he tried cane sugar. Measured his blood sugar. His blood sugar level with HCFS was twice as high as his blood sugar level with cane sugar. His comment is just above here http://tudiabetes.com/forum/topics/583967:Topic:261850?pa ... {I couldn't figure out a direct link - sorry}

Granted this was HCFS and not straight corn syrup.
