climate and science of labeling

Kyoto is 1990 - 5% by 2012.

Tbe first cut in L-W doesn't begin until 2012. L-W calls for retreat to the 1990 Clean Air Act emission levels of CO2 between 2020 - 2026.

The incrementalist enviro org's are backward or your deep dark enviro's are simply the dead enders. Anyhow, good for U.S. light greens.

To celebrate in anticipation of a Democratic victory in 2008 and the end to GW, I put my heat up 5 degrees tonight.

Bernie Backs Down?

As a constituent and climate organizer, I'd like to hear Bernie explain himself. I'm usually a huge fan of his, but I think he may have blundered this one in a big way. Where does he stand? Where will he stand in the next congress if L-W gets vetoed?

Senator Sanders was a forceful advocate

at the mark-up

he would not have been more forceful if he set his hair on fire and went screaming from the room

Senator Sanders did not, and will not, back down. It is not in him.

What Sanders approval may mean?

Does the fact that Bernie Sanders now approves this bill change some of your opinions that this may actually be a pretty good bill (and may be the best we're going to get for awhile)?

What does it say about the deep greens ...
... that they're not impacting this debate? Is it a symptom of the "environmentalism is dead" argument, that the deep greens refuse to come to the table to hammer out a deal and would rather stay on the margins screaming about how The Man is screwing it all up?

Shades of green...

Light green may not be as good as dark green, but it's certainly better than black...the color of smog and pollution that would continue unabated at current levels if no bill was passed.

And, as much as I would love a dark green bill, we do haveta be somewhat realistic and realize that, under current conditions, a dark green bill would probably never make it pass the Senate, much less the president (heck, the light green bill will have enough trouble makin' it as it is).

Light green beats black any day.
