"[O]ur efforts to fight terrorism and spread democracy"?  The U.S. military is used to make the world safe for American profits and cheap crap.  The U.S. is probably the biggest terrorist in the world.  We don't have anything approaching Democracy here (western Europe, for example, is much closer), and have never attempted to spread it anywhere that I'm aware of.
