I think it's interesting to note that the winning designs you list at the end (Prius, electric bicycles) are <b>efficiency</b> designs. &nbsp;They are not alternate fuels (gasoline and electricity have been supplied in quantity for close to a century).</p><p>
A few people (Amory Lovins?) push efficiency as their thing, and there are some programs (CAFE?) ... but I don't think we are getting all we could out of an efficiency drive.</p><p>
I bet most people could cut their energy consumption in half, totally without hardship, and saving money overall. &nbsp;But they don't. &nbsp;Their mindset is to wait for the "alternate" fuels.</p>
