Impact
Well, the least that it gets you is name recognition. That's a foot in the door.

At best, I see no reason why it couldn't start many people on a chain of events that would lead to interest in hybrid cars. After all, we've all discovered green issues some way or other, and it wasn't always from an expected source.

Ford
The thing that I find interesting is that the show obviously has a product placement deal with Ford - any "cool" appearance of a car in an episode of Alias is invariably a Ford (did I mention that I'm an addict?). They're really been pushing the new Mustang this season.

Point is, Ford isn't a company that's known for its hybrid selection. If I recall correctly (too lazy to do real research right now) the only model they currently plan to offer is the hybrid Escape. I wonder if this means that some serious hybrid development is in the works with them. I'll keep my eyes open.

More hybrid links from the Detroit Auto Show.

Hybrid on Alias

I saw Wednesday's episode (I, too, am an admitted Alias addict) and thought it was great that they talked about the hybrid. I particularly liked when she spray painted the (was it a) hummer. I think these brief allusions to environmentalism that are cropping up on some tv shows can only help, seeing how much people revere and emulate movie stars. I get angry every time I hear Ashton Kuchter's name. Hmmm...I just noticed that Jennifer Garner was in "Dude, Where's my car?" with him. Could this be just coincidence? I think not.....

A Word Of Caution

Counterpunch has just reported that the network that airs Alias uses government input in writing the show (they claim that it makes the show better). So, that show is loaded with U.S. government propaganda, which can't be anything but far right. I would not encourage anyone to watch shows like this if you desire progressive change. In fact, little or no TV is best, as it has a mind-numbing effect regardless of what is watched.

Jack's exact words about peak oil on last Alias

"Well considering the rapidly growing demand for fuel in
nations like China, India not to mention the world's oil
production is expected to peak in the next five years and
then sharply plummet, I think it's pretty clear were looking at an exponential rise in the global conflict along with an energy crisis of unfathomable proportion. So yes I'd say a hybrid is an excellent idea."
