Stopping Global Warming in One State

 David is correct to balance the good news coming out of California against the bad news coming out of Texas. Maybe this is what is meant by carbon trading (joking)?

 Global warming is a problem that cannot be addressed state by state, or even city by city. As lovely as the gestures being made by tiny states like Vermont are, they are unlikely to have much impact on states like Ohio. (No particular reason for picking on them at the moment (smile)).

 The Texas plans show how quickly a victory in one locale can be erased by the actions of another.

 To make progress, action must occur at the national level. The whole Titanic floats or sinks together.

The Facts About TXU

We (Environmental Defense) and several other NGOs and citizen groups are doing our best to slow down TXU's runaway train. The press is asking good questions. The editorial pages are saying the right things. TXU just keeps on spinning. Amazing. We're issuing regular updates about what's happening down here. If you want to be kept in the loop, email (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)

Deregulation = more GHG emissions
Read this great (you know in the sad sort of way) expose by the Texas Observer on the impact of deregulation of the electric utilities in Texas. Basically utilities can run coal plants but charge natural gas plant rates. That is practically a license to print money.

Real Texans will vote Kinky in Nov. I'm tempted to move back to my poor old home state to do just that. Check out his energy plan.
