Just the beginning...

Don't retire yet, David.

We've just scratched the surface of energy issues. We will need much more analysis and clear thinking, such as you provide. The Bush speech is just one blip in the overall trend.

Ethanol, oil addiction, EROEI, efficience -- all these issues will move to center stage, I think.

About Bush, maybe it is time to move on to other things.

And who knows, he may surprise us yet. He regularly veers off in unexpected directions, such as the last-minute inclusion of switchgrass in his speech.

We know that he is talking to people who believe in Peak Oil -- Rep. Roscoe Bartlett and his friend Richard Raintree, who has been influenced by James Howard Kunstler.

There is strong support for a policy of energy independence among some military and intelligence people. Former heads of the CIA in particular seem to be speaking out about it.
