No wonder people hate Americans....

"its intention to make Poland - the Iowa of Europe.-"

Its bad enough that eastern Europe is struggling compared to Western Europe, but now there will be even more economic depression. Congratulations Smithfield, for killing animals and reducing human living standard for the small local farmer in Poland.

Smithfield's CEO will get bigger bonus, and the poor farmers will become penny-less and go hungry at the same time more resources will be used to raise and kill more innocent animals!

Why ecologist equals terrorist...
in the eyes of big government is that they know that the only way to shut these operations down is direct action. The laws that allow these operations and the market manipulation that destroys small farmers are made behind closed doors in places like Davos where G-8 meetings are held.

Even national legislatures are being told that these are "done deals" and that they can't limit CAFO size or contract rules. It's the "free market" at work. The only free market that's working is the market in politicians.

If the Poles are stupid enough to accept these CAFO's without massive protests they deserve their fate. All they have to do is look what they have done to the US farm economy. They should blockade the roads leading in and out of these operations until they are abandoned. Of course interfering with polluting thugs corporate CAFOs is probably considered terrorism in the Bush/Neocon playbook.

This is yet another case where the "free market" means lower wages and more pollution rather than fair wages and clean, high quality food. Let's face it; there is no "free market" except in an economists powerpoint slide.
