Hi Holly, Thanks for mentioning the NY Times piece.  My blog was one of the items mention in the piece as a resource for finding chic & cheap choices.  Consumers have many options right now for dressing well, without having to save up for the $300.00 jacket you mention.

I do agree with you that there are many great choices at vintage stores too (including salvation army).  You just have to take the time to look for them.
