Good post.

And thanks for the link to Dominic Crea's paper - scratches a lot of itches I'd felt when reading Lovins' work.

The bike analogy is an excellent one, by the way. The sharing on Grist of your hybrid bike development experience has been very informative and inspiring to me and I suspect many others.

Politicians Comprehend Exactly Two Things
...money and power, which can be used to get money. These are the drivers behind biofuels, hybrids, and hydrogen fuel cells. The LibertyGuys have written EXTENSIVELY on why biofuels are at best uneconomic given current market conditions, and at worst a global disaster.

Good post (2)

All I can do is echo spaceshaper. I like the photo of the fields. Soybeans are among the lowest-yielding commercially grown oilseeds.

We had the debates before.

I remember having these ethanol/biofuels debates in the 1970's and it was somewhat decided that they didn't make sense economically or environmentally. So why are we back to this? The politics. The same wrong things to do, but now the politicians can get votes with it. It's all so sad.
