I thikn it would definitely be foolish to stop looking for alternatives.  Hopefully the energy bill that is in congress will have a helpful impact.  By calling for a fuel economy standard of 35 miles per gallon by the year 2020 and renewable electricity sources it is certainly a step in the right direction.  Unfortunately lobbyists are trying to have these provisions removed.  I'm working with a group to try and stop that from happening.  There is a petition here if you want to check it out.
