The SSC

Just for the record, Jared Duval does not run the Sierra Student Coalition. Saying that he does is an insult to the hundreds of students that have volunteered countless hours over the years to the SSC. Unlike Jared, these students believe in true true grassroots activism.

Climate Summer

I totally agree with trev about Jared. As far as I can tell, Jared has contributed nothing to the SSC during his tenure. Any progress that the SSC has made, has been despite of Jared, definitely not because of him. If any props are given they should be to Andrew Nazdin, Kat McEachern, and Erica Stout (among many other SSC volunteers); without their efforts climate summer would not be happening. Way to go SSC!

The SSC
Well, we can sit here and talk about the leaders of the organization, or we can talk about the amazing organizing SSCers are doing around the nation:

Over 300 SSC groups running the Campus Climate Challenge.
We're running the 8 of the best youth empowering, revolution building, grassroots organizing trainings in the nation. (http://www.ssc.org/sprog)

And now Climate Summer, which is going to elevate the issue of Global Warming over a tipping point, over which our leaders will no longer be able to ignore the issue.

So, when you think of the SSC, don't think about Jared, Erica, Kat or myself. Think about what the SSC and all of us students are doing in this movement.

Andrew Nazdin

Andrew you sly devil, I know what you are trying to do. You are trying to re-frame the issue and make all the wonderful Grist readers look at the issue in a different way. You must have read "Don't Think of an Elephant".

Kudos!

student power!

What the students are doing is great! I hope they can change their schools and their/our society. While they are at it, though, I hope they change things on the micro level.

By going veg, they can make a bigger personal difference in terms of global warming than they can by switching to a hybrid car (also a good thing to do, of course).

Going veg is also better for the environment in a whole host of other ways, better for their personal health, and needless to say better for the animals who won't be tortured, killed, and made into meat to satisfy people's selfish desires.

Please visit Eco-Eating at http://www.brook.com/veg for much more info and lots of links.
