Biden and rail

Another interesting point is that Biden has been a champion of Amtrak for years, pushing back against right wing efforts to defund it. He commutes by rail every morning to Washington from Delaware, and his son is on Amtrak's board.

All in all, we can expect a pro-environment administration, one that understands global warming in a national security context, and understands that going green is good for jobs and good for the economy. And we should expect a greater emphasis on rail and public transit.

I have to a say, for enviros, this is shaping up to be a pretty hot ticket.

Realize...

That elected officials are generally expected to vote as their constituents wish.

At the time of the Iraq War vote the vast majority of US citizens had been fooled into thinking that supporting the President and his drive to war was necessary.

We bought into the Sadam = 9/11 bullshit.

Voting against Bush would have likely been political suicide for many office holders. It was a "live to fight another day" decision for people such as Biden.

Blame us.

Voting As Constituents Want

Bob,

Here in California, Senator Dianne Feinstein's mail, email, and phone calls were running something like 10-1 against the war. She said that if she voted as her constituents wanted, she'd have to vote against it. But she voted for it anyway. So Biden has no excuse, especially on an issue that big.

That said, this seems to be a decent choice. Not as good as the Kansas governor for someone who can stand up to power, but probably better politically.
