Baby Boomer Nails It
I agree with you, BB. He does give Xtians a bad name - but really only to those hopefully few who haven't the ability to discern between different Christian teachings. Anyone who groups all Christians together likely groups all Muslims together, all blacks together, et cetera, and represent a special type of bigot who we can disregard as far from integral to any social or political movement.

Yet - the thrust of your comment speaks to the problem we face when it comes to incorporating religion into the fight for a sustainable future. I see great strides being made, but Falwell doesn't help matters.

Roberts' PS is flippin' hilarious, btw.

Failure Analysis

LOL, there is a branch of science that deals with what is called "failure analysis," like why some bridges fall down in an earthquake and others do not. Many were involved in the 9-11/NIST/WTC investigation. It's some pretty cool stuff.

Perhaps Jimmie Fallible needs a little failure analysis? Were there some stress cracks that caused him to go kaflooie? Is he showing signs of early onset Alzheimer's? Teaming with a panel of brain and spine experts, we might just be able to figure out what when wrong with the man, and why. /sammie

Oh the irony

Hey, pointed fingers only get burnt when the world (including this site)is guilty of an even greater fraud.

Global warming is a myth... well fair enough for the average Joe, a little warmer is luvly

Global warming IS caused by greenhouse gases you say..... no excuse about accepting this fraudulent science unless you owe Big OIL

All science points to petroleum oil in the marine micro layer.......which all the facts point to, bingo !

Grist posters still rattle on about the fraudulent greenhouse gases science... but I suppose it is one step beyond total denial, but sadly equally fatal, maybe even more so.

At least those in denial are protecting the status quo to some degree by non interference in the opposing forces at play.

Whereas those seeking changes based on fraudulent science will only exacerbate the Global Climate Change problem.

But when it comes down to the bottom line, all these players are in total denial. Here there and everywhere.

see y'all, Now I am going driving in the beautiful sunshine in my SUV......... but first I will change the oil and dump the used oil in the bush, eh !

Jerry Falwell

Just wondering since the religiously devout are increasingly being won over to the faith based argument to protect the planet if folks like the good Rev. are beginning to lose a lot of money. Sounds like cry of desperation to me.

Mythical Fallwell

Tens of thousands of scientists with masters and doctoral degrees are wrong? Anthropogenic sources of global warming are a myth? Who makes this stuff up, anyway?

Let me say that Jerry Falwell is a very sick person and has to have some serious drugs to moderate his behavior. If you hadn't noticed, every twice a year he blathers another idiocy that even his own camp can't defend.

That said, his very name packs some heat and many of the blind sheep follow him into the woods, for whatever reasons.

I always wanted to ask Rev. Gerald Mann of Riverbend Baptist-Austin about Falwell and his lunatic antics. If you don't know, Willy Nelson and other celebs used to hang out with Gerald and he was a real cool guy that supported environmental causes. Unfortunately the man died before I/we could pop the question about global warming, but I'm sure Gerald would have a reasoned answer.

The Southern Baptist Convention has splintered away in many places, includeing Riverbend and a few massive churches in Dallas. The Convention insisted that no environmental cause be supported. The huge mega-churches basically said no.

I find it real conforting that tens of thousands of former Falwell ditto-heads are now in "our" camp. Falwell speaks for a very small sub-group now for a think tank, a good place to keep him until he cools his jets. /sammie

Stranger Than Fiction

LOL

>>> Tens of thousands of scientists with masters and doctoral degrees are wrong? >>

sadly that answer is 'yes'

>>> Data from visual observations (about 100,000) and chemical analyses of marine water samples (several thousands) from all regions of the world's oceans were analyzed. The presence of dissolved and emulsified oil hydrocarbons in surface waters in concentrations of up to several µg/l (and in regions of increased petroleum pollution - up to several mg/l) was revealed everywhere.

I wonder too, but then again its a mad mad mad world.

But you're not concerned at all, are you ?

LOL
