Quick Draw at High Noonan

Noonan is just one hired gunfighter at the WSJ corral.

I have had personal experiences at the WSJ as an advertiser and later as the subject of a featured story, a woodblock mug drawing and the works. Postmortem reveled that WSJ carbon-based owners control what goes into WSJ and they do not like solar. Go figure.

I was getting considerable press that a solar glass mirror was competitive with coal (I had a huge solar dish that stood 60 feet from the ground, lots of press sex appeal).

The story about the economics of solar glass was bullet proof, so the WSJ assignment editors chopped a story to assassinate the messenger. While I was talking about solar economics, the WSJ story released about me that said I lived by cooking roadkill (not true, excepting omega-3, I am a vegetarian).

My point here is that the story about global warming is bullet proof, so the WSJ editors pay hired guns to assassinate the character of climate scientists.

Don't carpool alone.

Noonan's Sadness and Frustration

Peggy Noonan's column is sad and frustrating because of either her shocking ignorance or pure sophistry.

She hits an absolute highpoint of smarminess and moralizing -- and a genuinely false note -- when invokes the trust of "The People", the same public which consistently finds scientists to be more trustworthy than her own profession of journalism.

Can we teach them to understand what science is?
I've been blogging all week about the utter disregard for science displayed both by this administration and by the American people in general (James Inhofe, anyone?). But this piece of steaming, well, you know, by Noonan is really the icing on the Republican cake. It is unbelievable that these otherwise fairly well educated people simply refused to understand what science is. Why on earth would anyone (well, anyone who's fairly well adjusted) want global warming to actually be true? Why would any scientist want to be showing herself over and over again that the world is headed for a very bad place, and probably in her lifetime too? It just doesn't make sense.

In this country's past, we have decried regimes that have killed or silenced intellectuals and scientists (think Pol Pot), so why are we becoming a nation that does the same?

yankee (http://www.theoildrum.com)

Hilarious article

Here in Canada, we have our own collection of clueless and/or corrupt journalists - think Tom Harris and Terence Cocoran. (The latter wrote a very smooth article explaining why scientific consensus equals conspiracy or groupthink or corruption - something other than, consensus, anyway.)

If Noonan's article is icing on any cake, then...French Revolution again, anyone?

Scientists are smarter than me and Peggy

From the moment my little digital alarm clock goes magically off, to when I open the refrigerator which is mysteriously cooling my food, to when I put on my lightweight waterproof hiking boots - gosh, I live a charmed life, thanks mostly to scientific research and development. Nearly every gadget, food item, piece of clothing and transport mechanism I use was developed through the scientific process.

Climatologists spend hours tediously measuring stuff like salt concentrations in the sea and gas bubbles in ice. They work much harder than blowhard wingnuts who, though they enjoy the fruits of science in every aspect of their lives, somehow think when it comes to climate, opinions based on rationalizations are good enough.

We live in interesting times, as the old curse goes.

Thanks for this one!

I could barely believe my eyes as I read Noonan's essay. Thanks for writing so eloquently about what was so very wrong. It was an amazing amount of ignorance on display - actually a bit frightening that someone who seems to learned could be so biasedly-ignorant.

Gotta be projection. If all your friends are greedy and think only of money and power, then that has got to be what motivates the scientists, too.

But, thanks. Nicely written.

Hinckley misunderstood?

"An ombray so mean he shot a president just to get a date with a pretty gal"

Was Noonan in the entourage that fateful day? Maybe he was aiming for Peggy? Hehey.

But seriously, couldn't the bikers that kidnapped Gary Condits g/f and sold her to arab slave traders get some cash for Pegleg? She could ammuse wealthy shieks with her profundity.

Maybe a package deal of Noonan and Coulter? Come on you evil, slavetrading bikers, make the world a better place, do it for those young wealthy arab male children longing for experienced skanky intellectual whores to show them the ropes.

The next Bandar Bush maybe struggling with teenage angst under the tutelage of a playmate of the year as we speak! Please help!
