Assess tax at consumer level like grown-ups

It would be more honest and effective to hike motor fuel taxes at the consumer level. Although we're undertaxed at present, as illustrated both by the current size of government expenditures and the ineffectiveness of even a "conservative" administration to reign them in, perhaps we could take a page from the Reagan book. By declaring his plan to be "revenue neutral," Reagan shifted attention away from any perception of his proposal as a revenue grab, and toward the merits of the plan itself. Thus, raise excises on motor fuels, and rebate the revenues via EIC and other tax credits that primarily benefit low-income individuals and families.

A true politician
Am I the only one who sees the resemblance here? Finally, this script is looking an awful lot like a real vision. Hillary should get the Simpson's DVD collection and watch them all, she would learn a lot. From "Bart to the future:"

Lisa and Milhouse discuss ways to pull America out of the debt hole.

Lisa: If I'm going to bail the country out, I'll have to raise taxes, but in my speech I'd like to avoid calling it a, "painful emergency tax."
Milhouse: What about, "colossal salary grab."
Lisa: See, that has the same problem. We need to soften the blow.
Milhouse: Well, if you just want to out-and-out lie ... [Lisa doesn't object] Okay, we could call it a, "temporary refund adjustment."
Lisa: I love it.
Milhouse: Really? What else do you love, Lisa?
Lisa: Fiscal solvency.
Milhouse: [disappointed] Oh. Yeah, me too.

In the end, it all comes down to biodiversity.
