How I found my plot, pot and plants.

Once you are addicted to gardening, the windowsill space will not provide enough satisfaction for the urge to dig right in.

I offered to help a kindergarten in my neighbourhood with some gardening and managed to enlist the neighbours to give me their unwanted pots, plants and cuttings through a "Think Green. Let's Recycle Green" effort.

I gained a huge space and a large variety of plants to experiment with and the principal allowed my children to study at the school and attend day care at no charge.

If You Were A Real Farmer...

...you'd rip up all those veggies and put down corn to sell to the ethanol boys. Then you could finally pay off the mortage for the "back 2.5".

Buckets full of yummy goodness
I've grown four urban gardens in two cities, including one entirely in rows of five gallon buckets on my roof. There is nothing like climbing through your roommate's bedroom window to the roof to snag a fresh salad and tomatoes for made-from-scratch pasta sauce.

Another great resource for urban gardening on the cheap (for dudes and women and everyone in between): www.yougrowgirl.com
