Great Lakes Salvage

A related story is the salvage from Lake Superior of lost/discarded lumber from the 19th century rape of the northwoods. There are 10,000's of trees sitting on the bottom in perfect condition and the lumber is highly valued for its fine grain. Apparently, the trees grew much slower in the virgin forests and the grain is much tighter. There is a nice cottage industry in Northern WI crafting musical instruments and furniture.

River Recovered in Florida

Goodwin Heart Pine Company has been recovering logs off river bottoms in Florida for 29 years. We worked with the State of Florida to develop an environmentally sound permit process for river recovery and we own the U.S. Patent Office federally registered trademark "river recovered." The permit process helps protect the river habitat. For more information on how the process works contact Goodwin or the Florida Office Of Submerged Lands and Environmental Resources.
