Whether Obama changes direction and allows real regulation of GMOs depends on how much he's wiling and able to de-corporporatize the federal government, including regulatory agencies. Looking at some of his  cabinet appointments so far this doesn't seem to be a top priority. My hopes are high but my expectations are much, much lower.

You know, if you think about it, all this stuff might just be great - in the short term, for the US, could solve the Medicare and Social Security crises.  I always figured the government plan for that was to give us all cancer, combined with unaffordable health care, and just look at how things are turning out!  Smaller people with a lower birth rate from GMO foods - could mean a smaller carbon footprint!  People talk about saving the planet - the planet will be here long after we're gone, albeit in rather bad shape.  Doing ourselves in might just be the best thing that could happen, and we do seem terribly bent on it.  It's just too bad we're going to take so many other species with us.  So you see, it's all just part of the plan.  Don't worry, be happy!  I'll drink (organic wine, of course) to that.  ;}
