Interesting report, BioD

Thanks for the first-person account.

I'm worried, though, that as of writing this, almost one-quarter of the respondents to your poll clicked the button for "You are a shill for Big Oil and a bad person!"

Frankly,
I'm surprised it's that low. I just finished a simple website that I'm hoping the general public can better understand. From the comments I've seen it is pretty obvious that numbers and even graphs are not cutting the mustard. I've moved to pictures and stick figures.

In the end, it all comes down to biodiversity. Poison Darts--Protecting the biodiversity of our world

That last option puts people between a rock and a
hard place. Enthusiasts will tell their buddies to go vote. The sudden upsurge for that choice will give it away but I had to wait for it to happen to mention it. The simple fact that they would call someone a shill for big oil and a bad person just for pointing out the negatives of biofuels made from industrial food crops is just what that option is meant to highlight. There are only two reasons to do so: ignorance and/or spite. People are frightening creatures.

If you want your country to use less oil, use less oil. Don't replace it with something scraped off the face of a planet in the throes of an extinction event that will soon have 50% more people on it and pretend all is right.

In defense of the accusers...

It is a very poorly written poll, there are three options one direction and only one clearly biased option in the other. It also doesn't take into account shades of gray like "only waste biodiesel should be used as fuel." If you create a "with us or against us" choice then people will naturally line up against you or with you. It's almost always a propaganda mistake.

Anyway, biofuels are generally a red herring and do not seem to be useful/sustainable for large global populations.

Better yet, they could have done what you did.
Discuss it. It also isn't a real poll. I don't like the "Biofuels Kill" slogan and was curious what others thought.

In the end, it all comes down to biodiversity. Poison Darts--Protecting the biodiversity of our world
