biggering
This reminds me of two things. The first is an article by George Monbiot at http://www.monbiot.com/archives/2008/06/10/small-is-bount ... which I recommend. It seems that smaller farms are more productive than larger farms.
The second is Dr Seuss' story 'The Lorax', in which the Once-ler keeps on biggering and biggering and BIGGERING and BIGGERING until he had chopped down all of the Truffula trees and driven out all the local wildlife (the Brown Bar-ba-loots, the Swomee-Swans and the Humming fish). But when the Truffula trees were all gone, there was no more money to be made, so that put an end to his biggering! Get it from the library - it's a great book - all ages.
