Something to consider Mr. Chairman, an economic tipping point is coming, that means recession turning into depression. The familiar climate change tipping point can be addressed by reforming the US auto industry into a plugin hybrid industry.

So can the looning economic tipping point.

Waxman Guide for saving energy

Since Waxman represents Beverly Hills, he could probably cut U.S. energy consumption in half just by restraining the wasteful lifestyles of his Hollywood elite.

How about 4 cars in the driveway instead of 5?

How about not having two new outfits per day?

Less trips to Nancy Pelosi's winery would aid efficiency...

Still the Technology 16 to Contend with in Senate
While Obama, Waxman and Pelosi may have more-or-less free reign in the House now, they will still have to contend with the group of sixteen moderate Senators who are organization to take control of the climate debate in the Senate. Representing nearly 1/3rd of the Senate Democratic caucus, the "Technology 16" share views more aligned with Dingell than Waxman and will be a force to be reckoned with on any climate policy coming out of the House. Not to check the enthusiasm, but while Waxman's appointment may signal a major political shift in the House, it does little to change dynamics in the Senate.

There is something more nuanced here than

who did what to whom in Congress. The American auto industry has been on the defensive for decades - mostly because of its own congenital stupidity. But with the Lear Jet pan handlers coming to Washington asking for a spare 25 billion, car lots full of SUVs that will never be sold, and foreign car companies still cleaning their clocks - the American auto industry has seen its political, social, and cultural legitimacy collapse. If they survive, they will find themselves operating in a different world than the one they helped create a century ago. That may be better for them and better for us in the long run. Time will tell.

I like Waxman!

I personally like Henry Waxman. He's aggressive than most Democrats in fighting both government and corporate corruption and, in the willingness to investigate these entities for improprieties.
I expect much better times ahead for the pro-environmental quality community due to his continued efforts.
