The Eastern Coal fields have long been under the delusion that coal mining in all its forms is good for the economy and life cannot go on without it. Even when you are only talking about the most destructive mining method on earth the political economic brainwashing of all West Virginia and Kentucky coal county citizens is total and complete. The coal corporations can turn the Appalachian Mountains into a desolate waste land if left to West Virginia and Kentucky coal bought legislatures and Federal Legislative representatives. It will be up to the rest of the nation to stop the environmental destruction of the southeastern Appalachian Mountains in these two states. The people are no better off than when the coal barons owned the coal company towns, houses and you had to trade in the company stores with coal company script. The coal corporations and their lobby are still as dominate in steering local public opinion as when they owned the coal town News Papers. If a national movement is not mounted to stop this environmental destruction and quell the voice of coal bought politicians such as Senator Byrd from West Virginia whole eco systems will continue to be destroyed. Destroyed to maintain just a hand full of jobs and to enrich a coal corporation even when other mining methods are available that are not as destructive.
