Does anyone feel

...like we are living in Bizarro World??

Obviously it's fantastic that our future President actually acknowledges & plans to do something about global climate change; it's just a bit hard to get used to. It could almost be The Onion.

I'm with you kmp
After watching Incurious George butcher his native language for eight years, watching Obama talk gives me goose bumps.

In the end, it all comes down to biodiversity. Poison Darts--Protecting the biodiversity of our world

OK, but still very narrow

Yes, this kind of speech is a terrific improvement over what we have been all too accustomed to hear. But there is far more to understanding climate change than what can be narrowly contained within the concepts of "economy" and "national security."

No doubt Barack Obama understands that (or so I hope). And no doubt no US president can expect to get anywhere, if he does not speak as though such matters were his primary concern.

But that just goes to show that the actions of the US government, or of any government, will never accomplish all that is required of us by environmental ethics.

And if the American people wish to (re)claim a position of leadership in the world, then they should understand that the point of such leadership is to make life better for everyone around the world, equally. If Americans think that leadership, prosperity and security are worth having in order for Americans to enjoy them, with no concern for anyone else, then they deserve none of those things.

We are all in this together.

Chickens deserve our true friendship! So do fish! So do other sentient beings! Let us learn to be kind.

New initiative to work with Obama admin.
Just spotted online that a new initiative called The Digital Energy Solutions Campaign launched today at the Smart2020 Conference. The group is made up IT firms and Environmental organizations who "will work with the incoming Obama Administration and Congressional leaders to educate and promote how ICT strategies can make our economy robust while at the same time becoming increasingly energy efficient and environmentally friendly." Members include Dell, EMC, HP, Intel, the Technology CEO Council, Verizon, the Alliance to Save Energy, The Climate Group, and the World Wildlife Fund. They've also "outlined a policy framework to make private industries and government more energy efficient, create behavior changes to make us more energy efficient and reduce ICT's energy needs." More info at http://www.behindthegreen.org/blog/?storyId=23913
