GW and partisan politics

Well, it should surprise no one that if the Democrats and their supporters are making big sounds about climate-change mitigation and "clean, renewable energy," the Republican is going to feel compelled to dig in and pronounce something different.

Just another example of how democracy is a frightfully inefficient way to get anything done.

Chickens deserve our true friendship! So do fish! So do other sentient beings! Let us learn to be kind.

Remember Dukakis

Remember when we thought that after 8 years of raygunning, there was no way we could lose?

Look at the polls, look at the destruction wrought by Hillary's idiot campaign attack dogs. If a bush, senior or junior could beat us, why can't a McCain? Helped by Nader.

Witness the media fascination with sex scandals today in Detroit. And the widespread promotion and hiring done in industry and government based on sex with the boss. Are their any CEOs not on their third wife, half their age, that was at one time their "assistant".

How many politicians are on the second or third wife, half their age?

Any hint of a sex scandal, even a false hint, could lose us this election.

And we see here in this article how maleable McCain is in terms of any principles. It is no accident that the turncoat unprincipled, traitor Lieberman is McCain's best buddy.

Industry and contractors will have it their way under a McCain administration with GHG as usual and invasion of Iran a near certainty.

We are headed for disaster. Start campaigning for Barack as soon as possible, saturation politics is needed with every bumpersticker and sign everywhere we can put them.

All Hillary voters, call or email the Hillary campaign to plead with her to concede now.

What am I missing?

... the price of carbon hits politically impossible levels, $348 per metric ton, which, in the EIA analysis, doubles the price for electricity. But that price for carbon would raise gasoline prices by under a dollar a gallon and thus would not have much impact on average U.S. fuel economy ...

I know that cap and trade is not exactly the same as a carbon tax (though it is said to virtually the same thing at the consumer level). But I'm having trouble seeing how a carbon price of $348/tonne would raise gasoline prices so little.

BC recently brought in a carbon tax of a measly $10/tonne which is reported to add 2.4c/L to the price of gas (~9c/gal). Simple math would say that a carbon price almost 35x higher would add at least a couple bucks/gal to the price at the pump. Does cap and trade have such massive leakage?

The elephant in the room.
Everyone is ignoring the elephant in the room:

The trillion-dollar carbon-auto subsidy.

Because of this, the McCain people can exploit the weakness of any proposal.

The carbon-auto industry is readying a Medicare Part D style bonanza with cap-and-trade giveaways. Technology credits are an easy "anti-market" straw man they can knock down.

Unless we start pointing out the carbon-auto subsidy, the population will not be able to navigate the biofuel/cap-trade smog.
