Lawyering, rhetoric, throwing pepper in your eyes.

You write; "...every issue is defined by two shrill, partisan camps..." Amen, brother.
Isn't this an excellent definition and description of the lawyers' dog and pony show - known professionally as the adversarial system?

You write; "A position's truth value has nothing to do with...its adherents' rhetorical acumen."
Bingo! The pretentious lawyer blather has EVERYTHING to do with rhetorical subterfuge. It's the ONLY legal game in town, too.

O. J. Simpson (mack-not-the-knife) spends most of his days lofting to the green and getting his balls in the hole.

Of course...
...industry long ago recognized the value of "bucking conventional wisdom" with the dreaded exhortation to "think outside the box." Politics, as usual, is lagging behind a decade or two in this trend.

The self-congratulatory members of the NSH Club (is it coincidence that it reminds me of NHS, or National Honor Society, from high school?) should perhaps re-think the wisdom of their "maverick" viewpoints. To quote a favorite movie, "Bulimia is so '97." Nowadays I hear much more about "not re-inventing the wheel" and "So-and-so Pharma made it work, so can we," and even (heaven help me) "thinking inside the box."

So, while the members of the NSH Club are patting themselves on the back for finally wearing black, everyone else is wearing..... green.
