The UK Telegraph article is actually about a different event (one in San Francisco), but from the looks of it---a brand-new book, a lefty/green audience, and lots of Anti-Bush energy---the story was much the same.

the fawning crowd at the 92nd Street Y represents only a wedge of a much vaster population

If you think an upper east side Manhattan YMCA represents "vaster population", then you really live in a vacuum.   Perhaps, the guy in the silver tutu wearing butterfly wings should have given it away.
