Puget Sound Tidal Power
There's already been a detailed study of tidal power potential in Puget Sound in the Tacoma Narrows. Puget Sound Tidal Power LLC did the study for Tacoma Power in 2007. Tacoma Power decided not to proceed with a demonstration project based on the feasibility study. There were several reasons why, some specific to the utility itself, but some more generally applicable to Puget Sound or to tidal power generally, especially the environmental impacts, the low average current speeds (and hence, power produced), and the significant expense of one-off custom installations. More research is good, but prospects for tidal being more than a niche power source are not bright.
