Nice
One of the best things about a bike in a big city is that you don't have to look or pay for parking.

actually, it's been out of california for a while

DC's Washington Area Bicycle Association has provided bike valet service at big events around the city for many years. They are a staple at the Green Festival and other earth-friendly events. Two HUGE valet stations were set up on inauguration day to help cyclists who wanted to see their prez. Cali is great and all, but please do your homework before you say something is "only in cali."

Up north too

Eugene, OR has had bike valet service at large public events provided by the Center for Appropriate Transportation for many years. Now if we (and CA and every other state) could just get more people to abandon their two-ton wheelchairs we'd really have something to get excited about.

Helmets anyone?

Great idea but where where where are the cool helmets on these cool people? Congrats to the kid with the lid and the few others I saw - your heads are safe from the side mirrors of passing buses. Maybe an opening for an eco helmet stall at the markets?

"Only in California"??

Not to be a stickler over something of little consequence, but this is one that California can't claim for themselves anymore. Bike valets are and have been used at many cycling events in NYC. It's good to see that this idea is getting news time, though!!

As someone that has had their bike stolen

And trashed out before I got it back, this is a great idea! You don't have to worry about it getting stolen, ran over, being in someone's way, getting peed on by a dog, and so on. I hope these would show up in all places where bike riding is a viable substitute for driving.
