Students need to learn geography...

That's right, Barack...21st century Bush policies beat your 1970s Jimmy Carter energy plan any time...

Funny the things they teach at Princeton.

Apparently, certain pupils are taught that Emperor Bush ruled over Japan as well as America, and that he thus dictated Japanese energy policy.

But then again, they also don't seem to know the difference between climate and weather, so it's not much of a shocker.

No big difference

I find it amusing that enviros were happy about the announcement. Well gee, ugh, there wasn't much oil in those places except the tract way offshore of Alabama in the Florida Tract. The most you'll find are shallow "stripper" wells for natural gas, maybe some oil and condensate. Even Grist noted that one time - like 1-2% or something? Get real, a huge rig like Thunderhorse can increase US domestic production by 5% just itself.

Of course the independents are mad about it, since they're wildcatters who do shallow stripper wells to 8,000 feet deep at most, so they're locked out of the "small potato" market. But across the board, oil and gas companies are shutting down rather than really wanting to build.

A word about Arctic drilling - at least four countries have stakes a claim to those fields and the US can't do squat to prevent any of it outside the Alaska state lands (AWNR) and waters. Russia thinks they own the North Pole already. But right now that is technically unfeasible and nobody has really run detailed seismic arrays there. So ... a lot of arm waving about nothing.

Fukuoka 2, Tasermons Partner

Climate is an average of weather, projected out to the future.

Under Bush, the Science and Energy Intelligence Quotient was at an all time high.

Since then, it has decreased precipitously.

Thus the "science and innovation climate" at this time is standing still and maybe ready to go down a bit as Cornbama starts pushing ethanol for his Illinois donors.

MMS

Any house cleaning at MMS? That would seem to be a high priority given the proclivity of members of the department to snort meth off of toaster ovens and engage in sex with oil industry "employees", in return for favorable decisions on leasing arrangments.

An extra important area for reform would be to scutinize under performing leases, cancel them, and offer them up for rebidding. The oil industry wants to further monpolize oil supply by exerting control over every bit of oil they can get.

"Drill baby drill" is not the operative phrase for oil execs, it is "lease baby lease" sit on the oil until it goes up to 200 bucks per barrel, then maybe start drilling?

And what about lease payments due? Didn't the duuhbyaist regime waive 8 billion in lease payments? Can we recover those funds?

Drooling over hydrogen

From jab's link:

The generation units are 1 kW-class, and utilise hydrogen in liquefied petroleum gas.

An oil based power grid? I hope they used platinum in those fuel cells, what was the per unit cost? Great link, once again.

Drool jabby drool! Hehey.

lol, what? Do you define science as something different from the rest of the world? Or maybe you were asleep.

Bush's administration was one of the most anti-science, anti-intellectual administrations we've seen. Recall all the reports on bullying from the White House from EPA scientists, etc? Maybe you and yours chalk those up to whiney scientists or something.

Thoughtful Debate
I am impressed by this new level of examination and debate at Interior. I hope that Congress acts similarly as they move forward with climate change legislation. I've been disheartened by the lack of a full and open debate regarding things like reducing CO2 emissions. Politicians seem to be talking more about political expediency than they are about what solution is best for the country and the Earth. As I said, I hope this kind of thoughtful debate continues...
