meh, once oil gets expensive again, it will solve the problem.

food, inc talks about this.

the big ag complex runs on oil and natural gas. natural gas for fertilizers, oil to run their machines. remove just oil and big ag collapses.

They freaked out last summer and I'm of the firm belief that we are experiencing artificially low oil prices. We are the biggest economy and the most powerful natin in the world. Do you honestly think, regardless of who owns the oil, that we (our government) will allow another run up again, like last summer, to happen? I have a bridge to sell you.

big ag, prior to the run up in oil prices, believed falsely that they held all the cards. when the price of oil ran up, they freaked out. We are set for another giant jump in prices, but because of the recession, the prices are low, but honestly, they shouldn't be quite this low. there is something going on, perhaps a deal with the saudi's of some kind, to keep the price in check. And as much as the saudi's benefit from high prices oil, they still have to import virtually all their food. Interesting, huh? the very last thing those dictators need is food riots.

Look at the larger picture folks, it's really not that pretty.

But but but but Sen. Boxer you don't represent the state that does the "true" farming that gets all the federal subsidies! Now, to us folks in flyover country, we know how to tell a farmer from a farm owner; we can smell the difference between pig **** and bull****. ACES will have much less of an effect on the average farmer's pocketbook than the concentration of processing into a few large companies has had. You'd think that these "leaders" would recognize the fact that the majority of farming can only be profitable when oil and natural gas are cheap. And even then, you have to utilize the economies of scale to survive in their marketplace. We know oil won't stay cheap much longer, and cap-and-trade is a known initiator of new technologies to replace older ones.

Farmers have become one of the most anti-environmental groups, as weird as that is. By "farmers" I do not mean small family farmers that farm organically and sell locally, but screw the rest of them.
