Choosing actions by survey, hmmm. I'm not sure whether to approve. While I like to see an NGO listening to the people who support it, there's always a risk that people who really don't understand the issues involved will out-vote those who do. Hopefully, at least some of the participants will do some well-rounded research (like reading Grist's articles and analyses) and then make their own decisions.

I want to join MoveOn just to vote on this. Hope they choose the climate, MoveOn has tremendous resources and membership and would be a welcome partner with Sierra Club, LCV, Greenpeace, Energy Action, 1sky, and all the other excellent groups commited to serious climate action.

Since most mainstream environmental groups have, for all intents and purposes, given up on this issue (most of them are busy sending self-congratulatory messages to their members, carefully avoiding ANY mention of the major flaws in the bill) it falls to grass-roots and activist organizations such as MoveOn to pick up the gauntlet. I know where my support is going.

As far as I can tell it's not true that "the Clean Air Act rollbacks in the bill would stop President Obama’s Environmental Protection Agency from setting new rules for global warming pollution" since there is at least one other avenue for doing so -- the Clean Water Act rule-making relating to ocean acidification, currently underway. Any insight on this point, Kate?

A stronger climate bill is crucial, and MoveOn should give it all the support we can. I represent an NGO at the UN and hear more than many of my well-informed US colleagues about what climate disruption really means. Small island states and low coastal areas are panicking. The change in patterns of precipitation is already causing devastating droughts and flooding. The illusion that our economy can be viewed as separate from the health of the planetary systems that enable life is dangerous nonsense, equivalent to "I'm not worried, it's your end of the boat that's sinking."

What scares me is that if the US fails to put through a responsible climate package domestically the Copenhagen negotiations in December on an international treaty to replace Kyoto are doomed. If that happens we are endorsing global disaster.

Yes, MoveOn, let's do everything we can to strengthen the climate bill in the Senate, and then more again when the two Houses get together on the joint bill.

Grist to join with the Democrat Party's hacks on Move On? Those people who are responsible for loading the voting booths with people not Americans? Doesn't anyone object to that organization? Please, please read about them. Google awaits.

Grist seems to be a willing consort to the lowest bases of our party.

I vote firmly against anything to do with Move On.

Troll alert! Troll alert!. I am just suprised that while trashing MoveOn, Catmoves did not also find some gratuitous reason to also trash Nancy Pelosi, ACORN, Cindy Sheehan and other favorite targets of right wing demonology. Watch out for the green helicopters, catmoves. They used to be painted black, but under Al Gore's influence they are now green. Our environmentally correct police are coming for you!

Randy Cunningham
