I'd never heard the term "globesity" before but it makes so much sence. The vast majority if people totally overlook the connection between agriculture, health and climate change and it is hugely important. The more local you eat, the more healthy you eat and the less gas you guzzle. I will definetly adopt the word into my lexicon and would be interested to read the book. -Sophy @ Sustainable Table

I'm so glad that this article features meat as a cause of global warming as a central argument, and not just an aside. So often I hear lecturers presenting or read papers that completely gloss over the role of diet in climate change. When I go out to eat with a well-known climate change activist or academic, and I watch them order filet mignon--their enviro-cred plummets in my mind. It is widely excepted now that industrial agriculture plays a part second only to transportation in its contribution to global greenhouse gases. And as "development" speeds up in the Global South (thus bringing the North/West diet of meat and dairy) this dietary component is going to become more and more of an issue.

The problems facing the planet are all so interconnected. Â This seems so obvious, yet here we have the first book exploring the issue of obesity (over-consumption) and climate change. Â I think the issue here is the "western" lifestyle of which food is such a large part. Â

As the price of carbon becomes exorbitant, people will slim down as the high fat/high carbon options become too costly. Â There will however, always be those fat cats who will contribute an enormous footprint simply because they can.
