I have seen the H1N1 flu described by government officials as "novel." Novel foods are defined as possibly genetically engineered. Is the H1N1 flu a genetically engineered problem? This flu seems to have jumped the species boundary, something that genetically engineered organisms are manipulated into doing. If the biotech industry is so interested in investigating this situation, one might suspect that just possibly this novel disease was man-made. Factory farming is certainly a nightmare but if we add genetic engineering to the mix it could be a devastating problem for the health and well-being of citizens around the world.
