Gov. Crist has been green-leaning on some issues. He has been very pro-nuclear, though, which is less green than coal. Because of the high costs of nuclear energy, if we fully utilize this option, we will not be able to afford the other realistic options. Any dollar that goes to nukes could buy over twice the amount of energy with the same dollar going to wind. Energy efficiency yields over five times the energy savings per dollar spent. Even photovoltaics have become cheaper per kilowatt-hour than nuclear. That is without counting the costs of the federally required 1 million years of waste monitoring. If you do count this million years of costs and energy outlays, nuclear is by far the dirtiest, most expensive pork around.

Through energy efficiency, we can cut back on the use of our current fleet of electrical generators. This will buy us time to make the switch to renewables and energy storage technologies.
